A woman sitting amongst the trees midway down the 14th green fairway shouted in the direction of Phil Mickelson, about his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame intending for the left handed golfer to hear her as she pulled out a pink cell phone and clicked an image of one of the legends of the game.
Just about half a week has passed since the induction of the left hander into the Hall of Fame of Golf and in his first tournament since the induction; Mickelson shot a one under par in the first round of the unofficial fifth Major of golf, The Players Championship, currently underway at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course. Although it wasn’t the kind of round that he wanted prior to the tee off, he still left the course with a kind of satisfaction.
Speaking about his performance later on to journalists, the veteran stated that when the course was a bit different, when there is a bit more of receptive green, he will be able to convert the one under par that he shot in the first round into something a bit better. Phil Mickelson also added that every shot on the golf course required the undivided attention of the golfer because the penalty for a poorly executed shot quite severe as he experienced in the first round.
He also added that course was challenging but still, it is possible to get low scores and hence, it can be done. Having started with two birdies in the first and second holes and then a par, his score sheet got blotted by the unexpected bogey that he shot in sixth hole.
But Phil Mickelson is a man of confidence and he is sure that he will be able to turn things around when the course gets to the greens proper.
