Dustin Johnson, the golfer who is only 1 shot off the lead at ten under par two-hundred-six after carding a seventy in Saturday’s 3rd round, is known for his fecund distance, both off the tee as well as with his irons.

But he really has put on a little game clinic in Shell Houston Open, mainly with the putter. He is number one in strokes gained in putting, having made almost three-hundred-fifty feet of putts at the Golf Club of Houston. He is also 5-for-5 in sand saves and sixteen-for-twenty-three in jumbling, well for twenty-second in the pack. On Saturday, he had just twenty-five putts to stay in the line.

Johnson told that he played really well on Thursday and then, you know, just mediocre the past 2 days. But his short game has been really good. It has held him in there the past 2 days under tough conditions. At 6-under 210, Spieth would have to go very low Sunday to overhaul the champs and win Shell Houston Open. But in spite of not uploading really low scores, Spieth is happy with the shape of his new game and is feeling very comfortable with the putter going into Augusta later this week.

He had twenty-six putts during Saturday’s two-under-par seventy and has eighty putts for the tourney. He is forty-sixth in the pack in strokes gained putting. Defending Masters champion Spieth said that he did some very great work yesterday and a little more this morning. Now this is close. You know, seeing some go in is really what’s going to make the difference, seeing some in tournament play.
