While Tiger Woods’ unfortunate absence from the Masters has saddened the golf world it has also cleared the road for some other potential names at the esteemed tournament. It is especially true for Adam Scott who seems firm for the 2nd green jacket after Tiger Woods’ withdrawal from the event.
The World number one would be missing out on the Masters event for the 1st time in his entire career given a critical surgery on his back. Apart from Woods, Mickelson, another favorite at the Masters, might be absent as well given a muscle injury which he sustained while hitting at Texas Open last month. The very absence of two stalwart golfers has shortened odds for Adam Scott.
Bookies cut the defending champ’s (Adam) odds to 8.50 USD in the claim of one more green Masters jacket at Augusta. Woods has been a 4-time champ at the same event.
The Aussie is a 2nd favorite for Masters 2014 behind McIlory (7.50 USD) with countryman Day (15 USD) equal 3rd. Their odds would drop further in case the 3 time champ Phil (15 USD) follows Tiger in pulling out from the tour.
The 14-times major champ Tiger himself confirmed the news of his back surgery on his site. “After an attempt to prep up for Masters & failing to go through required progress, I took the decision, consulting with doctors, to get the procedure done”, says Woods’ website. “The week’s really special for me. It seems like I would be compelled to miss out on different upcoming tours to focus on my rehab & health. It’s frustrating but something which my doctors for my long-term & immediate health.”
Mickelson, however, has expressed interest in playing for Houston Open and is hopeful that he would be fit enough for masters next week.
